Spring Fling Recap

Where Culture, Food & Community Thrive

We're thrilled to share about Siċaŋġu Co's Spring Fling Farmer's Market- the first market of the year! Since its humble beginnings in 2017, our market has blossomed into a vibrant community hub, showcasing the best of local produce, crafts, and culture.

Why Our Farmers Market Matters

Over the years, we’ve witnessed remarkable growth and transformation. What began as a small effort—just us and one other vendor set up outside a local grocery store—has blossomed into a full-fledged community event. Today, we host dozens of vendors throughout the season, and the market has grown so much that we’ve had to change locations twice just to accommodate the energy and enthusiasm!

But our farmers market isn’t just about selling goods. It’s about building something deeper.

In a rural, Indigenous community like ours, opportunities to connect face-to-face, to support one another’s businesses, and to buy fresh, local food are rare—and incredibly meaningful. The market gives local artists, food vendors, and entrepreneurs a real platform to share their work. Without it, many would be left to rely solely on social media, which is a difficult and often unreliable way to grow a business in our area.

One of our primary goals is to empower our vendors with the technical assistance they need to thrive independently. Through funding from our generous donors and grants, we offer totally free vendor support, including setup and canopies, to ensure their success.

Each vendor brings something special. Together, they turn the market into more than an event; it becomes a celebration of culture, creativity, and community strength.

Thanks to our Food Sovereignty Initiative, we also make fresh, healthy, and affordable food available to our relatives. Most of the produce in our local stores travels thousands of miles by semi-truck and often spoils just a day or two after purchase. In contrast, the food we offer at the market comes straight from the Siċaŋġu Co garden. It’s picked fresh, sold at a lower cost, and grown with care just across town. ❤️

This market is our way of reclaiming local economy, nourishing our people, and rooting our future in Indigenous knowledge and self-determination. Every week, we gather not just to shop, but to invest in one another, in our land, and in the strength of the Siċaŋġu Oyate.
