JOB SUMMARY
The General Ledger (GL) Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records across Sicangu Co and its affiliated entities. This role ensures the integrity of the general ledger through meticulous journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, and support for period-end closing processes. The GL Accountant works cross-functionally with Treasury, Accounts Payable, and other areas. The GL Accountant supports financial reporting, audits, and compliance initiatives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial transparency and consistency in alignment with internal controls and accounting standards.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The General Ledger Accountant oversees the following key areas:
● General Ledger Management
● Financial Close & Reporting
● Account Reconciliation
● Financial Analysis
● Compliance & Internal Controls
● Fixed Asset Accounting
● Audit & Tax Support
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Manage and execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
● Maintain standard period-end closing schedules and procedures.
● Post accurate journal entries in the company’s general ledger system (Sage).
● Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
● Track and maintain fixed asset ledgers in coordination with IT and Accounts Payable.
● Conduct monthly expense variance analysis and report findings to management. Prepare quarterly balance sheet and P&L fluctuation analyses.
● Assist with consolidation, intercompany transactions, and reconciliations, including foreign currency impacts.
● Support the development and maintenance of ledger processes, documentation, and internal controls.
● Contribute to the preparation of month-end financial statements, cash flow reports, and budgets.
● Assist with quarterly and annual tax filings.
● Participate in external audits, providing schedules and supporting documentation.
● Complete special projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
○ Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
○ Minimum of 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, including general ledger work
○ Proficient in accounting software (Sage preferred) and Excel
○ Knowledge of GAAP and internal control practices (e.g., SOX compliance)
○ Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
○ Willingness to relocate to or work in proximity to Mission, South Dakota
○ Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting
○ Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Pay: $68,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
