Accounting Generalist

The Accounting Generalist provides broad accounting support across Sicangu Co and its affiliated entities. This position performs journal entries, reconciliations, and financial data entry under the direction of the General Ledger Accountant. The role ensures accuracy and consistency in the general ledger, assists with period-end closing processes, and supports internal control and compliance efforts. The Accounting Generalist works closely with Accounts Payable, Treasury, and program staff to ensure transactions are recorded correctly, documented thoroughly, and maintained in alignment with internal controls and accounting standards.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Accounting Generalist assists with the following key areas:

· General Ledger Journal Entries

· Balance Sheet Reconciliations

· Financial Data Entry

· Support for Month-End Close

· Internal Controls & Documentation

· Audit Support

· Cross-Functional Accounting Assistance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Prepare and post journal entries with proper supporting documentation.

· Perform assigned balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.

· Verify transaction coding for accuracy and compliance with internal policies.

· Assist with month-end close tasks including accruals, adjustments, and validation procedures.

· Support the GL Accountant with account analysis and variance review.

· Maintain digital financial files according to naming and retention standards.

· Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits.

· Coordinate with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Treasury on coding and reconciliation questions.

· Identify and communicate issues requiring correction or follow-up.

· Complete special projects and accounting tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered

· Minimum of 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience

· Experience preparing journal entries or reconciliations preferred

· Proficiency with accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and Microsoft Excel

· Understanding of GAAP and internal control practices

· Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

· Experience with multi-entity accounting preferred

· Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is valued

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour
