Our Wakanyeja. Our Future.

The Lakota language is critically endangered—if we do not act now to teach our youth, it will be effectively extinct in a generation.

Wakanyeja Ki Tokeyahci is Rosebud’s only Lakota language immersion school. Guided by four pillars: language fluency, strengthening Indigenous identity, holistic wellness, and academic excellence, Wakanyeja Ki Tokeyahci will graduate the Sicangu Nation’s first fluent Lakota speakers in generations.

We need YOUR help to make this vision a reality! Despite the leadership of Indigenous activists, the state of South Dakota doesn’t provide funding to community-based schools like ours.

Your contribution will directly impact their journey in several meaningful ways:

🥘 Locally & Tribally Sourced Meals: Because we prepare all of our meals fresh and live in a food desert, we spend about three times the national average per student per day. Your donation will ensure that our students continue to enjoy nutritious, locally-sourced meals every day, fostering a healthy learning environment.

📚 Essential School Supplies: By contributing, you'll help us equip our students with the necessary tools for success, ensuring they have access to quality education.

🌾 Educational Experiences: We plan to enrich our students' education by organizing trips like visiting the Wolakota Buffalo Range, helping them connect with our buffalo relatives and our Lakota ways of life.

You can support the future of Wakanyeja Ki Tokeyahci and the preservation of our Lakota language and culture.
