Construction Laborer

Position Summary

The Construction Laborer supports Rosebud Construction, Inc. (RCI) construction projects by performing general labor, material handling, site preparation, demolition, cleanup, and basic construction activities under the direction of field leadership.

This position works as part of RCI's field construction crew and assists skilled tradespeople and equipment operators in completing projects safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements. The Construction Laborer is expected to develop construction skills through hands-on experience and increasing responsibility.

Superintendent, Lead Carpenter, or other designated field supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform general construction labor on residential, commercial, and site-development projects.

  • Assist carpenters and other skilled workers with construction, installation, repair, and finishing activities.

  • Load, unload, move, stage, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Prepare jobsites before construction activities and maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the project.

  • Perform selective demolition and removal of designated building materials while protecting adjacent construction and finishes.

  • Assist with basic carpentry activities, including measuring, cutting, fastening, layout, blocking, framing, trim, doors, siding, and other work as directed and within demonstrated skill level.

  • Assist with drywall installation, repair, preparation, and related finishing activities as directed.

  • Assist with flooring preparation and installation activities.

  • Assist with concrete and site work, including excavation preparation, grading, forming, placement, finishing support, backfilling, compaction, and cleanup.

  • Dig trenches, holes, and other excavations using hand tools or approved equipment.

  • Assist equipment operators by spotting, signaling, establishing safe work areas, and helping position materials and equipment.

  • Set up and remove barricades, temporary protection, work-zone controls, ladders, scaffolding, and other temporary construction systems when properly trained and authorized.

  • Operate hand and power tools appropriate to assigned work after receiving required instruction or training.

  • Measure and mark materials and work areas according to instructions, plans, specifications, or field layouts.

  • Maintain, clean, inspect, and properly store company tools and equipment.

  • Assist with loading, securing, transporting, and unloading tools, materials, and equipment.

  • Perform jobsite cleanup and properly dispose of construction debris and waste.

  • Follow project plans, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and directions provided by field leadership.

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, quality concerns, concealed conditions, or other problems to field leadership.

  • Perform other construction-related duties consistent with the employee's training, qualifications, and assigned responsibilities.

Safety Responsibilities

Safety is a condition of employment with RCI. The Construction Laborer is expected to:

  • Follow all RCI, project-specific, OSHA, and applicable jobsite safety requirements.

  • Wear and properly maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and required training.

  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report unsafe or damaged equipment.

  • Maintain awareness of equipment, vehicles, overhead hazards, excavations, fall hazards, electrical hazards, and other jobsite conditions.

  • Never operate equipment or perform work requiring specialized training, licensing, or certification unless properly trained and authorized.

  • Immediately report injuries, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew.

  • Dependable attendance and ability to report to assigned jobsites on time.

  • Willingness to learn construction methods, tools, materials, and safety practices.

  • Ability to safely use common hand tools and learn the operation of power tools.

  • Ability to perform basic measurements and construction-related math.

  • Ability to work outdoors and in changing weather and jobsite conditions.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding construction work throughout the workday.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, subcontractors, and others on the jobsite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous construction, carpentry, concrete, demolition, site-work, or general labor experience.

  • Familiarity with construction hand and power tools.

  • OSHA 10 or other recognized construction safety training.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record when driving company vehicles is required as part of assigned duties.

  • Experience working around construction equipment is beneficial.

Physical Requirements

The position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and working from various positions associated with construction activities.

The employee must be capable of safely lifting and carrying construction materials and equipment consistent with assigned duties and company safety practices, with team lifting or mechanical assistance used when appropriate.

Work may be performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, wind, dust, noise, uneven terrain, construction equipment, and other typical construction-site conditions.

  • Accept increasing responsibility as competency is demonstrated.

  • Produce work that meets RCI quality expectations.

Position Purpose

The Construction Laborer is an entry-level and developmental field position within RCI. The position provides essential support to skilled trades and field operations while creating an opportunity for employees to develop construction skills and progress into higher-skilled positions as experience, training, performance, and business needs allow.

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
