Grant Development Specialist

REDCO is seeking a Grant Development Specialist to support fundraising efforts across the Siċaŋġu Co ecosystem through

strategic grant development, proposal management, funder stewardship, and grant lifecycle coordination. Grant

Development Specialists are assigned primary strategic funding portfolios based on organizational priorities, department capacity, and subject matter expertise. Portfolio assignments may evolve over time as funding opportunities and organizational needs change.

Grant Development Specialists are assigned primary strategic funding portfolios and serve as subject matter experts within designated areas of organizational focus. Portfolio assignments are established by the Director of Grant Development and may change over time to support organizational priorities, funding opportunities, workload balancing, and staff development.

The Grant Development Specialist manages the full grant lifecycle within assigned portfolio areas, including opportunity identification, prospect research, proposal development, submission coordination, reporting support, and funder stewardship activities. This position works closely with Program Directors, Managers, subject matter experts, Finance, and Development leadership to secure and sustain funding that advances organizational priorities and community impact.

While Grant Development Specialists maintain primary portfolio ownership, they are expected to collaborate across portfolios and support broader organizational priorities as funding opportunities and workloads evolve.

Essential Functions:

Portfolio Ownership & Funding Strategy

● Serve as the primary grants lead for assigned strategic funding portfolio(s)

● Monitor funding trends and opportunities relevant to assigned portfolio areas

● Maintain awareness of emerging funding opportunities and strategic funders

● Participate in go/no-go funding discussions and strategic funding planning

● Support development of long-term funding strategies aligned with organizational priorities

● Develop subject matter expertise within assigned portfolio areas while maintaining the flexibility to support opportunities across other portfolios as organizational priorities require

Grant Development & Proposal Management

● Manage the full grant lifecycle from opportunity identification through submission

● Lead proposal development processes for assigned opportunities

● Coordinate proposal development with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts

● Develop compelling narratives, work plans, budgets, and supporting materials

● Ensure proposals meet funder requirements and organizational standards

● Maintain proposal calendars, deadlines, and submission schedules

● Prepare and submit grant applications, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and supporting documentation Cross-Functional Coordination

● Collaborate with Program Directors, Managers, Finance, and Development staff throughout the grant lifecycle

● Facilitate communication between internal stakeholders involved in proposal development and grant implementation

● Participate in Funding Alignment Meetings (FAMs) and other planning meetings as assigned

● Support alignment between funding opportunities and organizational priorities

● Coordinate with program teams to collect information, outcomes, budgets, and supporting materials needed for proposals and reporting Funder Stewardship & Reporting Support

● Support cultivation and stewardship of funder relationships within assigned portfolio(s)

● Coordinate narrative reporting requirements with program teams

● Assist with no-cost extension requests and grant modifications as needed

● Maintain accurate records of funder communications and grant activity

● Support compliance with reporting and grant management requirements

● Work closely with Finance and program staff to support timely and accurate grant reporting Grants Systems & Department Collaboration

● Maintain accurate information within grants management systems and tracking tools

● Support department-wide grants processes, SOPs, and workflow expectations

● Collaborate with other Grant Development Specialists to balance workload and share expertise

● Participate in cross-training and collaborative proposal development efforts across portfolios

● Contribute to continuous improvement of grants systems and departmental practices

● Maintain organized grant files, calendars, reporting schedules, and proposal records

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

● Three (3) years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, proposal development, program development, nonprofit administration, or a related field

● Strong writing, editing, and communication skills

● Strong project management and organizational abilities

● Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously

● Ability to build collaborative working relationships across teams

● Experience conducting research and synthesizing complex information

● Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

● Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other common workplace technology platforms

Preferred:

● Experience with nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, grants management, or institutional funding

● Experience working within one or more areas such as community development, housing, entrepreneurship, food systems, agriculture, language revitalization, cultural preservation, health, education, workforce development, or economic development

● Experience with foundation, federal, state, tribal, or philanthropic funding sources

● Experience working with Indigenous communities or Indigenous-led organizations

● Familiarity with grants management software, CRM systems, and project management tools

● Knowledge of community development and nonprofit funding landscapes

● Requires periodic travel to Siċaŋġu Headquarters in Rosebud, South Dakota

● Additional travel may be required for events, funder engagement, or team convenings

● Must be comfortable working in both remote and in-person, community-based environments

● Ability to work effectively in a remote/home office environment

● Access to reliable internet and ability to participate in virtual meetings

● Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as required for events, deadlines, or travel

Pay: $56,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
