Assistant Summer Intern Mentor - Co-Facilitator

POSITION: Assistant Summer Intern Mentor – Co-Facilitator  

REPORT: Youth Internship Coordinator 

CLASSIFICATION: Contract 

LOCATION: Sicangu Co Headquarters, Mission, SD 

COMPENSATION: $17.50/hour, 35 hours per week for the duration of the internship 

 

JOB SUMMARY: 

The assistant Summer Intern Mentor will serve as a role model and mentor for participants (ages 16 – 24) in the 7Gen Summer Youth Internship. The Assistant Summer Intern Mentor will support the Youth Internship Coordinator to create a safe, engaging, and meaningful internship experience. The successful candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, able to handle confidential information, as well as demonstrate the ability to handle changing priorities. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers and community members.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Serve as a positive role model for the interns 

  • Plan and lead a weekly workforce development workshop, Ex. Resume writing, email and phone skills, and work skills.  

  • Facilitate daily activities when the Youth Internship Coordinator is unable 

  • Participate in all internship activities alongside interns and encourage collaboration 

  • Prepare and set up various activities and equipment 

  • Motivate interns to stay engaged with all internship activities  

  • Communicate any challenges or intern concerns to the Youth Internship Coordinator  

  • Assist interns with their community projects 

  • Help facilitate group activities or ice breakers 

  • Adapt to evolving responsibilities, as directed by internship staff 

  • Additional duties as assigned 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Embrace the mission of the Sicangu Co Ecosystem and the 7Gen Vision 

  • Experience working with youth, including supporting, encouraging, and/or mentoring 

  • HS Diploma or GED 

  • Public Speaking experience 

  • Ability to serve as a role model to 20 summer interns 

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize 

  • Ability to work in both a collaborative team setting as well as independently 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Familiarity with Office 365 products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license 

  • Must have dependable transportation 

  • Must pass a comprehensive background check
